IDOL Begins!

You've got to Love that SIMON!

So I have my own family blog...but since I am utterly obsessed with American Idol, I did not want to crowd my "baby" space with idol. I thought I would just start my own idol blog and rant and let whomever is interested in ranting with me come and join as well.

I watch and record every episode of IDOL, but I really don't get into it until the GOOD singers start. In other words, I like to see the talent not the lack thereof. So, I will save my big postings until good stuff happens (I believe that starts when it is the top 30 and you actually get to vote).
Having said that....I do believe Simon is a little softer this year. I don't know if the producers of the show told him to give a compliment after you shatter someone, but he seems to be nice.

Paula, her new phrase "No--to THIS competition." What other competition would you say "yes" to? I love her, but one day she will actually come out and talk!

RANDY---you got the style as always. My favorite THUS far of the season is the backup "Waiting...Waiting on the world to sing." I have never laughed so hard! Keep it up DAWG!

This is great--I've been thinking about doing the exact same thing, but I'm glad you will do all the work :) I'll just comment.

We keep going back to watch Randy sing the backup to David Archuletta too--loved it.

I thought I'd share this story with you guys because it relates to American Idol, I hate to "rain on your parade" so to speak, but this incident disturbed me and I wonder what you think about it. As recorded by Dr. Laura on her blogspot:

"Sharon wrote to me recently about the second American Idol pilot episode: 'Auditioning was a young man who had made a promise to his father never to kiss or be intimate with a girl until his wedding night. He wears a key around his neck that fits into a heart that hangs around his father’s neck. His father will give this heart to his son’s bride when the time comes. It was all very sweet and I admired him so much for his dedication to this promise. I thought that his wife would be a very lucky woman.'"

"I was shocked at American Idol’s spin on this young man’s promise. I thought they would respond to it as romantic. Instead, they essentially mocked him. He did not get selected, and when he asked if the judges had any advice, they told him to go kiss a girl. He told his father he would just keep working on his voice and come back next year. The announcer said maybe next year he’ll come back as a man instead of a boy."

“I was shocked. To me he already was a man. It takes a man to make a sacrifice like that. He was easily 25. In today’s world, boys as young as 12 are having sex, so does that make them men? Who makes the standards on what makes a man today? And does American Idol have any right to make that call?”

Did anyone else notice this and take offense?

I am thinking of having you guys as well be able to change the blog--i am not sure i can keep it up all by myself...if you don't want to i will try.
I wish there was a way to post randy singing on the blog

I think that would be great if we could all somehow be contributers to your AI blog.
Liked what "anonymous" posted. "It takes a man to make a sacrifice like that. He was easily 25. In today’s world, boys as young as 12 are having sex, so does that make them men? Who makes the standards on what makes a man today?" Very good point. Reminds me of a talk by Richard C. Edgley back in the October 1999 General Conference entitled "Behold the man". In it he said: "A true man is strong enough to withstand the wiles of Satan and humble enough to submit himself to the redemptive powers of the Savior." Here's the link: http://www.lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-14-17,00.html

Ok, I am just going to rant for a second. First of all, I have watched EVERY episode of idol so i have seen the mocking of everyone.
Second, we all have watched it and know how the show works. Youknow you are going to be mocked when you go on the show--it is the business--if you can't take the heat--don't audition--which is why I don't.

I have mixed feeling about the guy with the key...Idol had other on that had values--the girl that doesnt smoke or drink, etc...and they LOVED that about her.

This young man with they key...was a little off...TO be completely honest--i new he was using the key to get on idol...and idol new it..people use whatever they can. It seemed a little weird.

To each his own---whatever is right for you--he didn't even seem like he was interested in GIRLS if you know what I mean, and I think they caught that.

I am all about being a little conservative, but no kisses until 25? WOW! I laughed a little myself. I did not think they were that harsh, I was even thinking they were nice

I know, people don't know me if they think they can talk during IDOL--please!

I love that we all watch it in our own homes, but yet together

Jamie, I love this page! It brings back memories from Miller when we would all pile on the couches, avoid cell phone calls and tell everyone to shush! when they came in. They thought we were nuts, but they just didn't appreciate good entertainment.

After being kinda bored with last season, I hope that this one is more promising. The first few weeks are there just to bring in the ratings, it isn't until Hollywood week that I start to pay a little more attention. Anyone can "perfect" a song to sing, but, the true test is can they sing a song given to them with music??
